Relationship Counselling in Enfield

I can help couples to work together amicably, find ways to compromise, and move forward in their relationship.

I work with couples either individually or together and offer:

  • Individual Relationship Counselling
  • Couples Counselling
  • Combined Couples and Individual Psychotherapy

I usually recommend that you both come together for the first session. However, if you wish, you may come separately.

What to expect: In the initial session, you will both explain to me what you think the problem is with your relationship. I will then explain to you the method I use for couples counselling.  After that, I will work with you to agree a plan and focus for future therapy.

Individual couples counselling: Some people prefer to work through their issues in individual sessions, without their partner. This method has its advantages: you can discover the deeper root cause of your problems without having your partner present to interfere, judge or argue. You can also make full use of the session without having to share my time. Working in this way, you will feel confident to speak freely, and thus much more likely to face the problem that needs to be addressed and resolved in order to improve your relationship. Individual therapy usually helps people to communicate better. Afterwards, couples are often more inclined to talk about issues – and resolve them – with fewer disputes.

Combined joint couples counselling and individual psychotherapy: Alternatively, you may prefer to work with both types of therapy: couples counselling (where you both work together with the therapist) and one-to-one counselling. I find this can be the best approach to couples counselling. Results have shown that couples using both methods often make much quicker progress: they gain greater insights into themselves, without any pressure from their partner, thanks to the individual therapy, and a clearer understanding of the dynamics of their relationship, thanks to the joint therapy. This ultimately helps couples to find rapid, lasting solutions to their problems.

Relationships can become conflicting and troublesome, and make us feel frustrated and sad. When this begins to happen, it is a good idea to address the issues before they become worse. Unfortunately, many couples ignore small problems – until the problems worsen and become unbearable. When this happens, if you don’t seek help, such as couples counselling, relationships often break up. Sadly, most separations are very unpleasant and cause much pain to both parties and their families.
