Relationship Counselling in Enfield

One of the most common causes of unhappiness, and one which often prompts people to seek counselling, is relationship difficulties. These take many forms. Often the problem is difficulty in finding or maintaining a long-term relationship, but for others the problem may be a dependence on such relationships. In many cases, a particular relationship is the problem, in which either the client or their partner is unhappy.

A frequent cause of problems within a relationship is the fairy tale myth that is prevalent in our culture: i.e. once the prince and princess overcome the obstacles that keep them apart, the story ends and they live happily ever after. The reality is that this is just the start of their story.

Making a relationship work requires a great deal more than just finding the right partner: it involves knowing how to negotiate, how to compromise, and how to use communication and conflict resolution skills. It is important to have interests in common and to find ways to accommodate differences between you. It is often useful to talk about each other’s expectations of the relationship. It helps if you are both realistic about which of your needs they can expect to have met within the relationship, and which they need to take elsewhere.

Whether working with individuals or couples, I work on either a short-term basis, usually with clearly defined goals, or over the longer term, where we may have a much more open, flexible agenda updating your goals and commitments as we move further into therapy. During the first session, we will discuss how much therapy is required for each type of relationship counselling.

I will listen to you and help you resolve any concerns you may have regarding any kind of relationship problem, and help you find the best solution to your worries. I give you the space to help you work through problems in your relationship. Whether you want to improve your relationships with your loved ones, to create better social relationships, to have a better romantic relationship or to discuss a problem in a long-term relationship, contact me.
